I've Moved!

I am sure you all have noticed the radio silence here on the blog lately.  There's a good reason.  I've moved!

Not physically, just to a new URL.

After 6 long years of using Blogger, I've decided to break ties and make the move to Wordpress.  My new blog went live on January 1st.  And because I'm super creative, the name is exactly the same!  Please add my new blog to your bookmarks, Bloglovin, or other blog management systems.

Here's the new address:

See you there!

Throwback Thursday

Look, a blog post!  Say whaaaaaat?

Sorry I've been MIA lately.  Things at home have been challenging lately and I haven't had a lot of time to post.

But that changes today!  I thought I'd come back with a fantastic Throwback Thursday post.

This photo was taken in December 2007.  A fresh snow had fallen that day and I was getting ready to go sledding with my girlfriends.  I'm sporting hunter orange coveralls my dad had owned since the 80's.  They were covered with blood mystery stains and really warm.  After we bundled up we took our saucer sled and slid off the side of an overpass into a field.  Yeeeeah, an overpass.  There weren't a lot of sledding hills in the area.  We had fun, though.

Chop, Chop!

If you've ever had a baby, you know how much fun life is as your hormones go back to normal.  About two months after I give birth, my hair starts falling out.  I'm not talking a few extra hairs either.  I'm talking gobs and gobs of hair.  Clog the shower drain and ruin your vacuum shedding.

I had short hair when I had Gene, so while the shedding was annoying, it was tolerable.  This time, though, I had long hair.  About a month ago it started falling out.  When I'd take my ponytail out at the end of the day, the section just above the hair elastic would be matted where all of the hair that had fallen out was caught.  Brushing my hair was an absolute nightmare.

This week I decided I'd had enough and went in for a trim and this is what happened:

Okay, okay, so I got more than a trim.  My hair went down to my natural waist, so this is quite a big change.  I was tempted to get a pixie cut, but 1) I'm not that brave and 2) I didn't want to deal with the awkward Justin Bieber hair phase as it grew out.  This is plenty short.  In fact, it's so short I can't put it in a ponytail.  If you know me, this is a big deal.  I love pulling my hair back.

I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.  I very rarely leave a salon liking a haircut.  We'll see how I feel in a couple of days!

Review & Giveaway: Mrs. Patel's

I nursed my son for six months.  We struggled the entire time.  Gene wasn't gaining weight quickly and I never figured out if it was a latch or supply issue.  I loved breastfeeding and cried for a week when I decided to stop.

During my pregnancy with Moxie, I worried about what it would be like after she was born.  Would she have trouble gaining weight as well or would she nurse better than Gene?  Would I produce enough milk or would my body somehow fail me?

The folks at Mrs. Patel's must have heard my inner monologue.  When they offered to let me review some of their lactation treats, I jumped at the chance.  Mrs. Patel's products are based on traditional medicines of India.  For thousands of years, women in India have been using these recipes to help with postpartum healing and to boost their milk supply.

Fenugreek Bars:

-- Available in 4 flavors: original, peanut butter, chocolate, and vegan
-- Aid in lactation and postpartum recovery
-- Made with pure fenugreek flour

Munch Crunch:

-- Aids in lactation and digestion
-- Can be eaten alone or with other foods
-- Made from sesame, dill, fennel, flax, ajwain, tumeric, and lemon

Milk Water Tea:

-- Aids in lactation and postpartum detoxification
-- Caffeine free
-- Made with whole leaves and flakes

I received all three products before I had Moxie.  After I was discharged from the hospital I began using them.  When I had Gene, I was never really sure when my milk came in.  With Moxie, it was 4AM on a Tuesday morning when she was four days old.  I looked and felt as though I had gotten a boob job.  As I continued using the products, I noticed a definite increase in my supply, especially after drinking the tea.  I had the chocolate fenugreek bars, which were fantastic.  When I was feeling overwhelmed I would hide out in my kitchen and eat one.  Coincidentally, my toddler also thought they were delicious.

Gene Turns 2!

My beautiful baby boy is 2 years old!

It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating his first birthday.  Wasn't he just born last month?

I woke up Saturday morning to the sound of Mike singing 'Happy Birthday' to Gene before we started our day.

It was a busy one.

We started our morning with family pictures, which is always fun with a toddler.  It was only a 30 minute mini-session, so tears were minimal.

Late in the morning we had a little birthday party at our house with a few friends, my dad, and my brother.  Gene had a blast.  He wasn't interested in opening his gifts once the first one was open.  Instead he wanted to stop and play with his new toys.

After nap time we went out to his favorite BBQ place for dinner.  He was in heaven.  I'm sure the other diners got a kick out of hearing him say 'Yummy' after every bite.

We ended his birthday with his very first ice cream cone.  That was the plan anyway.  We showed him how to lick the cone, but he wasn't interested.  Instead we had to get a spoon out and feed it to him that way.  Such a silly kid!

It's hard to believe that we brought him home from the hospital two years ago today.  Our lives have been so blessed because of him!

Family Photos: Sneak Peek

We last had family pictures taken in April 2012 when Gene was 6 months old.  I love the photos that my friend Teran took of us and love seeing them hanging above the mantle.  Now that Moxie is here, it seemed only right that we have new ones taken.

As with anything you do with a toddler, there was a lot of chasing involved.  Michael got quite the workout trying to keep Gene out of the mud and weeds.  The photographer thought it was great and chased them both while taking photos.

The photographer mentioned she would post a sneak peek, so I started stalking her Facebook page later that afternoon.  I actually thought it would be a few days before she posted anything (she has 6 month old triplets).  Imagine my surprise when she posted a photo of Michael and Gene last night!

I.  Love.  This.

I cannot wait to see the rest of our photos.  Teran does such a great job and has such a bubbly personality.  I am so glad that we decided to work with her again!

2 Months

Miss Moxie is already 2 months old!  I'm sure I will say it every month, but how?  Time is flying by so quickly!

At her 2 month well baby checkup, Moxie was 24" long and weighed 8 lbs 10 oz.  She's finally above her birth weight!  She's been gaining an average of 3 oz per week since her mouth healed.  She's grown 4" in length since birth, so she still looks really lean.  We wouldn't mind if she filled out a bit, but we're glad she's gaining regardless.

- Eating
- Watching her big brother play
- Snuggling with Mama
- Talking and giggling

- Long car rides
- Tummy time

Moxie is a completely different baby than she was even a month ago.  She talks and giggles more each day and is generally a pretty content baby.  She will hang out in the swing while awake, though if she wants picked up she will quickly let you know.  She lets Daddy hold her more, but prefers that he stand up and walk around while doing so.

Moxie had her first long car trip in early October.  We went to Wisconsin to visit my in-laws.  Moxie did not care for it one bit.  We stopped twice so I could nurse her, so the trip ended up taking more than two hours longer than if we hadn't stopped.

Big brother Gene still isn't a fan.  He has said her name a couple of times, but if she's near him he tries to push her away.  One of these days he will love her.  I hope...
